Meteorological Equipment and Service Exhibition Unveiled at China-ASEAN Expo
ASEAN Countries Receive Emergency Support from Fengyun Satellite Disaster Prevention and Mitigation
On September 13, the meteorological equipment and services co-sponsored by the China Meteorological Administration and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Government appeared at the China-ASEAN Expo. The theme of the exhibition was “Technology to Monitor Meteorology, and Innovation to Drive Development”. Shen Xiaonong, deputy director of the China Meteorological Administration, Huang Junhua, vice chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Government, and representatives of the ASEAN National Meteorological Department and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Typhoon Committee attended the exhibition.
Shen Xiaonong said that the exhibition was an important measure for the construction of meteorological cooperation in “the Belt and Road”. It was a concentrated demonstration of the achievements of China's meteorological equipment and services, and an important opportunity for China and ASEAN countries to strengthen regional meteorological technology and industrial cooperation.
Huang Junhua said that Guangxi would further deepen cooperation and exchanges with ASEAN countries in disaster weather monitoring and joint defense, equipment technology and meteorological services, and promote the mutual benefit and win-win situation of meteorological equipment and services between China and ASEAN countries.
During the exhibition, the China Meteorological Administration released the emergency protection mechanism for disaster prevention and mitigation of international users of Fengyun Meteorological Satellites to ASEAN National Meteorological and Hydrological Departments of Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. According to this mechanism, ASEAN countries and regions may apply for emergency protection if they encounter meteorological disasters such as typhoons and heavy rains. The China Meteorological Administration will mobilize the Fengyun Meteorological Satellites on duty to provide targeted high-frequency encryption observation products.
In addition, the China Meteorological Administration delivered a meteorological broadcast system assisted by China to Laos at the exhibition. This will help improve the level of meteorological information dissemination and infrastructure in Laos.
It is said that the meteorological equipment and service exhibition is divided into six major themes, namely meteorological equipment and security, big data applications, weather forecasting and dissemination, artificial weather-influencing equipment and services, meteorological popularization interactive experience, and civil meteorological products, etc. The exhibition focuses on the presentation of China's advanced meteorological facilities and modernization achievements in meteorological, oceanographic, radar, satellite remote sensing, aviation, and ecological environment monitoring.
More than 50 units from meteorological departments, private companies and research institutes and universities participated in the exhibition. (Zhang Yong, Liu Shuqiao Photography: Liu Yingyi)
