In order to further strengthen efforts on China-ASEAN exchange and cooperation in statistics and advance deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields, the China-ASEAN Statistics Forum will be held during the 17th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) by way of online and offline on November 27 in Nanning, Guangxi, China.
As a high-level Forum in the frameworks of CAEXPO, the 6th China-ASEAN Statistics Forum is sponsored by National Bureau of Statistics of the P.R China (NBS) and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and co-organized by International Statistics Information Center and Administrative Office (Department of International Cooperation), NBS China, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Bureau of Statistics, Survey Office of NBS China in Guangxi and China-ASEAN Expo Secretariat. The China-ASEAN Statistics Forum has been successfully held for five years since 2015, which attracts more social attention, increases influence and receives praises from all sectors of society.
This Forum will focus on the theme of “Deepen China-ASEAN Cooperation and Exchange in Statistics” and discuss the topic about “Practice on population census and demographic surveys”. Population census is a scientific method for collecting population information, which widely used around the world. 2020 is population census year for China. Meanwhile, ASEAN countries, such as Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore also conduct population census in 2020. Through the Forum, participants of ASEAN countries and China to the Forum will adequately exchange experience on population census organization and implementation and demographic surveys. It can consolidate consensuses reached on the previous five sessions China-ASEAN Statistics Forum, continuously broaden fields for China-ASEAN Statistics cooperation and exchange, and improving statistical capability and level of China and ASEAN countries.
Compared with the previous Forums, the 6th China-ASEAN Statistics Forum has many highlights. First, all ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Secretariat will attend the Forum, which countries to the Forum are the most. It will be a grand meeting online for China-ASEAN field in statistics. Meanwhile, Director-General/Chief Statistician or Deputy Director-General of national statistics offices of ASEAN countries will participated in the online meeting, which is the largest number of senior representatives compared to the previous sessions. Second, it is a grand meeting in statistics held in the special period. The outbreak of COVID-19 has brought sever impacts on countries around the world. In 2020, high-level Forums held in the period of CAEXPO have decreased to 10 from 30. The China-ASEAN Statistics Forum is one of remained meetings. Third, the holding way will be more novel. This Forum will be firstly held by online video. The venue is located in Nanning, Guangxi and national statistics offices of ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Secretariat respectively. Fourth, statistical information and materials will be showed more in detailed. The Forum coincides with the opening of China Statistical Library in Guangxi (Guangxi Statistical Information Museum). Except for China statistical materials and old objects, a large number of China-ASEAN statistical materials are cleared up and collected in the Museum, which provides strong data support for researching Chinese and ASEAN history and promoting China-ASEAN cooperation and communication.
Participants to this Forum include leaders and related personnel from national statistics offices of ASEAN countries, leaders of NBS China and person in-charge-of related departments of NBS China, person in-charge-of and related personnel from the ASEAN Secretariat, leaders and representatives of statistical system from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
