“17 China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO)”
(Nanning Guangxi, China 27th – 30th November, 2020)
It is a pleasure to be speaking to the 17th China Asian Expo, which is taking place in Nanjing, China. I must congratulate the organizers of the Expo. At the same time, I must encourage the 14 Pakistani businesses who are participating in this Expo. And I'm glad this is happening. Despite COVID, China has been very confidently has overcome COVID virus, and I went there in March, 2020. And I was very sure that China, being a very disciplined nation under an excellent leadership of President Xi, I met him and I met the prime minister and many other important individuals. And I was very confident that China will be able to overcome this disease. And this Expo is a symbolic situation where it is showing that beyond COVID, China has provided leadership in trade, and China has provided leadership to the world. China has recently signed the world's largest trade agreement, which is a Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, which contains a lot of countries. And it has shown leadership to the world that it is a reliable trading partner, is the reliable economic hub. As far as Pakistan and China's relationship are concerned, as well as with ASEAN, Pakistan and China are a very reliable, very reliable friends. It's very deep friendship deeper than the oceans and as high as the sky. We are trusted friends. And in that continuity, the Chinese Pakistan Economic Corridor has done wonders in bringing Pakistan as an economic and strategic hub, where goods from China find the sea quickly and goods from the sea go through Pakistan towards China. This will also link up with the Central Asian countries, Pakistan and China have signed the second phase of the FTA which has been active since January 2020. And I believe it will, the business habits which we have learned from China, including the special economic zones, we open up special economic zones that we encourage ASEAN countries, as well as Chinese businessmen to invest in the special economic zones. Pakistan, Pakistan's macro economic policies have changed tremendously. There is great ease of doing business in Pakistan, our businesses, despite COVID we've handled COVID well also. But despite that, we because of the far reaching economic and trade reforms, our macro economic policies are quite stable, have provided good results and our businesses are online. What Pakistan needs to export to China and to ASEAN countries are our textile goods, our food produce, meat, vegetables, etc. We have surgical goods. We are able to look at the agriculture sector as well. And Pakistan is making great progress from the original CPEC direction of energy and infrastructure. We've moved on to agriculture to industry and the socio economic reforms, which are important. Besides textile sports goods, Pakistan makes tremendous amount of sports goods, in fact, is making footballs for the FIFA World Cups, in IT, in minerals. And there is a number of opportunities to be able to invest in Pakistan. Pakistan has a sectoral dialogue partnership with ASEAN, our partnership and our progress and our cooperation is increasing. We want to be able to do a feasibility where Pakistan, China, ASEAN trade triangle can come up as well as a feasibility into Pakistan and ASEAN FTA. I must congratulate the organizers were who have organized despite COVID some are online partnerships also which are happening, and it's a beautiful endeavour, and it supports the increasing trade between ASEAN countries, China and Pakistan. Thank you.
