The Media Promotion Conference for the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor hosted by the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was held in Nanning on November 27, 2020. The physical conference was attended by more than 120 participants including Qian Xueming, Vice Chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC); representatives of the related institutions directly affiliated to the CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee, 14 cities with subordinate districts, related enterprises, and industry associations as well as news media representatives. The on-line conference was attended by representatives of the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission as well as relevant departments, enterprises and industry associations in the provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) such as Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Gansu along the Corridor. The participants jointly witnessed new opportunities presented by the development of the Corridor.
At the Conference, Qian Xueming, delivered a speech entitled “Co-Building and Sharing New Corridor and Making New Achievements in Cooperation and Development”. Huang Wenchuan, Deputy Director of the Development and Reform Commission of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, introduced the progress and achievements made by Guangxi in promoting the construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. Related companies carried out targeted promotion regarding the construction of the Beibu Gulf International Gateway Port in Guangxi, the sea-rail intermodal shuttles along the Corridor, China-Vietnam cross-border direct freight trains, China-Indochina Peninsula cross-border freight trains, and key projects for the Corridor construction. At the Conference, the Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation was signed between Nanning Branch of China Railway Container Transport Corp. Ltd. and Yuxinou (Chongqing) Logistics Co., Ltd.; between Guangxi Chuangui International Investment and Development Co., Ltd. and Deyang Chengde Logistics Port Construction Development Co., Ltd.; between Guangxi Xiangxiang International Logistics Co., Ltd. and Maxvision Technology Co., Ltd., respectively. At the same time, the Launch Ceremony of the “One-Order System” Integrated Financial Service Platform for Multimodal Transport Along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (Guangxi) and the Implementation Ceremony of the First-Order Issue & Cross-Border Financing was also held at the Conference.
Under the leadership of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and with the guidance of relevant ministries and commissions, breakthroughs have been made in the construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor through the concerted efforts of all parties. The Corridor increasingly becomes a strategic corridor that connects the Belt and Road, and links the Yangtze River Economic Belt, Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-Cities Economic Circle, and Hainan Free Trade Port. Greater efforts are made to improve the corridor infrastructure, the scale of logistics has doubled, the business environment is being optimized, the integrated service capacity of the Beibu Gulf International Gateway Port has significantly improved, and the land-sea agglomeration effect and regional linkage effect are emerging, contributing to breakthroughs in opening China further through links running eastward and westward, across land and over sea.
At present, the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor has operated 6 sea-rail multimodal train lines: Chongqing-Guangxi, Sichuan-Guangxi, Yunnan-Guangxi, Guizhou-Guangxi, Gansu-Guangxi, and Shaanxi-Guangxi. From January to October this year, these lines operated a total of 3,655 trains, a year-on-year increase of 113%. The number of train arrivals and departures saw rapid growth. The Beibu Gulf Port has opened 52 container liner routes, realizing navigation to over 200 ports in more than 100 countries and regions. From January to October this year, the container throughput of Beibu Gulf Port reached 4.024 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 35.1%. There is routine operation of cross-border regular highway service routes from western China to Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and other countries in the Indo-China Peninsula via Guangxi land ports. From January to October this year, the import and export freight volume at the Friendship Pass reached 2,628,600 tons, a year-on-year increase of 13.08%. Since August 2019, the China-Vietnam (Nanning-Hanoi) cross-border direct trains have been operating routinely three times a week. From January to October this year, 127 cross-border direct trains operated between China and Vietnam (Nanning-Hanoi), up by 63%.
By capitalizing on the China-ASEAN Expo, this Conference will raise the visibility and influence of the Corridor at home and abroad, and attract more countries and regions to participate in the construction of the new Corridor. Guangxi stands ready to explore new paths for cooperation with all parties, promote new progress in the Corridor construction, and foster new cooperation and development of the Corridor construction with all parties concerned.
