Domestic economic activity has revived with the influx of investment in 2021, according to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Revival of the domestic economy and investment will create jobs for the people, Jokowi stated at the 58th anniversary of the Brawijaya University (Unibraw), Malang, East Java, held virtually on Tuesday.
"It will bring about economic recovery and open more jobs, which in the end will bring about advancements in Indonesia's economy amid the tight global competition," Jokowi noted.
The president affirmed that 2021 is the year of hope amid the government's unwavering, focused efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic, including conducting mass vaccination soon.
"However, we should continue to adhere to the set health protocols," he remarked.
The head of state emphasized that recovery in 2021 would require preparations, especially in the development of a qualified talent pool that is innovative and competitive and has a strong sense of nationhood to emerge winners in the highly competitive world replete with disruption and uncertainties.
"Indonesia is waiting for superior science and technology products from Brawijaya University to help in improving the people's welfare," he stated.
The president applauded various research work centering on COVID-19 conducted by the university that resulted in 132 patents.
"I have received a report that during the COVID-19 pandemic, Unibraw's inventors submitted 132 patents, the highest in Indonesia as compared to those of other universities. I am optimistic that we would not become satisfied and complacent with the high number of patents but this should instead be followed by cooperation to downstream innovation through collaboration between the university and industry," Jokowi reiterated.
