2018 witnessed the 15th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN strategic partnership and China-ASEAN innovation year. There is a close mutual-promoted link among three cooperation pillars that are politics, economy and humanity, of China-ASEAN strategic partnership, in which economic cooperation plays a role as engine. On the March 28th, Xu Ningning, executive director of China-ASEAN Business Council told reporter, it was necessary to have a definite goal in building up a new pattern of bilateral economic and trading cooperation, which is mutual benefit in brief.
China and ASEAN are important partners to each other
2003 saw the establishment of China-ASEAN strategic partnership with bilateral trade volume hitting 78.25 billion USD. In 2017, the bilateral trade volume reached 514.8 billion USD, up by 13.8% YOY, which hit a new high. During the period from 2010 to 2017, the average annual growth rate of bilateral trade volume reached 8.4%.
Xu made comments on the present situation of China-ASEAN trading cooperation, “China and ASEAN are important partners to each other in both respective foreign economic and trading relations; the bilateral cooperation benefits each other’s economic growth, even east Asian and world economic growth and regional stability; with active developmental trend of increasingly closed relation between China and ASEAN, it is highly complementary and huge potential of both sides’ cooperation, which leads to cooperation marching into mature.” “Now, it is necessary for China and ASEAN to optimize trading structure and investment structure in the cooperation, aiming to satisfy the demands of development of China and ASEAN countries and East Asian economic integration, and figure out the challenge of Instability of world economic growth.”
Xu believed, there were some problems in bilateral economic and trade cooperation, for instance, few native high-quality products in the bilateral trading structure; industry policies, regulations and plans in China, ASEAN and most countries were just started to dock; the level of opening in bilateral markets of trade in service and investment was not high. To sum up, it was difficult to realize the trade goal in 2020.
What’s more, some Chinese enterprises should notice the disadvantages including lacking of study, being anxious for success, annoying high-profile attitude and bad reputation of products or image and so on.
