Bank Indonesia (BI) said the inflation rate until the third week of March, 2020 had remained under control at 0.11 percent, helped by government measures to regulate the price of basic commodities.

"Based on the results of a price survey conducted from the first to the third week, the inflation rate is estimated at 0.11 percent, or 2.38 percent (year-on-year)," Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo said during an online press briefing on Tuesday in Jakarta.

The inflation rate remained under control in March, 2020 as a result of efforts to control the price of basic necessities, he said.

“I would like to laud the central and regional governments, which have striven to supply foodstuff so that prices remain stable," he said.

In February 2020, the inflation rate had reached 0.28 percent, fueled by a rise in garlic and red chili prices, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

Over a period of time, garlic and red chili contributed 0.09 percent and 0.06 percent to the inflation rate.

Other commodities that contributed to the inflation rate included purebred chicken meat, oranges, clove-blended cigarettes, rice, cooking oil, and potatoes.

Cumulatively, the calendar year inflation rate from January to February, 2020, was recorded at 0.66 percent and year-on-year, inflation was pegged at 2.98 percent.

The inflation rate had touched 0.11 percent in March, 2019 on account of a rise in flight ticket prices.
