Latest Briefing on 2nd China-ASEAN Expo

According to the consensus reached by all sides at the Senior Official Meeting held in April 2005 in Guilin, China, and the Summary Record issued after the Meeting, information on the progress of the preparatory work for the 2nd China-ASEAN Expo is released as follows:

I. China and ASEAN Countries have orally or in written form confirmed their respective “City of Charm” and space needed for showcasing:

About 2,026m2 of exhibition space will be allocated for the National Theme, equivalent to 229 standard booths.

II. Progress on the application of Chinese enterprises as exhibitors (till July 1)

1. 7 organizations — China International Contractors Association, China Automotive Industry International Corporation, China Food & Packing Machinery Industry Association, China Chongqing Global Sourcing Center, China Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers, China National Machinery & Equipment Import & Export Corporation and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China — will organize exhibiting enterprises to the Expo, using 1,333 indoor and outdoor booths (including 3,000m2 of indoor and outdoor net space, equivalent to 333 standard booths), accounting for 38.1% of the total.  Apart from that, exhibiting enterprises organized by China State Farms Agribusiness (Group) Corporation use 500m2 of indoor net space to mainly showcase farm produces, foodstuffs and agricultural sideline products.  Up till now, China Food & Packing Machinery Industry Association has confirmed 42 enterprises, booking 87 standard booths (31 enterprises with 63 standard booths have been confirmed by the Expo Secretariat).

 

2.  34 provinces (cities) of China have submitted their applications to the Expo Secretariat for 1,125 booths, taking up 32.1% of the total.  Application for 91 standard booths for the first patch of 68 enterprises was submitted to the Expo Secretariat by Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei Province, Shandong Province, Sichuan Province, Fujian Province and Inner Mongolia.  (The Expo Secretariat has confirmed 17 of them who will use 29 standard booths.)

3.  220 domestic enterprises applied directly to the Expo Secretariat for 335 booths, accounting for 9.6% of the total.  (The Expo Secretariat has confirmed 92 of them, who will use 183 standard booths.)  Enterprises to participate as exhibitors are manufacturers of machinery and equipment, electric products, household appliances, and light industry products and handcrafts.

III. Application and Intention to Participate of ASEAN Countries (till July 1)

ASEAN enterprises have applied for participation as exhibitors, booking 232 standard booths.  Among them, Thailand will use 80 booths, Malaysia, 46, Indonesia, 8, Singapore, 1, Laos, 17, and Vietnam, 80.  And the Philippines express intention to book 10 booths.  Vietnam BINH TIEN IMEX CORP., PTE., LTD. (BITI’S) also expresses the intention to book 3 to 4 booths.

We hereby keep you updated the above information.  We are expecting to be informed before the end of July of the list of enterprises organized by your side to participate as exhibitors, number of booths, categories of enterprises you organize and their exhibits, for us to organize Chinese professional purchasers to the Expo for business and purchase negotiations in accordance with categories of enterprises you organize.  Meanwhile, your esteemed country is expected to organize professional visitors to the Expo for the counterpart Chinese enterprises.
