The 13th CAEXPO Supporting Chambers of Commerce Conference & Business Networking was held in Nanning on September 10, 2016. This event, with “jointly building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Sharing Business Opportunities of the China-ASEAN FTA” as the theme, was organized by the CAEXPO Secretariat and attracted approximate 450 delegates from the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the CAEXPO Secretariat, the CAEXPO Supporting Chambers of Commerce in the 10 ASEAN countries, international organizations and institutions and Chinese and international enterprises.

The event aims to facilitate the efforts to upgrade the China-ASEAN FTA and forge the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, promote exchanges and cooperation among business communities of China, ASEAN countries and countries beyond the China-ASEAN region and showcase roles played by the CAEXPO in extending 10+1 cooperation to that among RCEP member countries.

Mr. Li Bin, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Guangxi Committee made remarks at the event, saying that the CAEXPO has grown to become an effective public product for China-ASEAN cooperation over the past 12 years and has provided a platform for practical cooperation among enterprises of China, ASEAN countries and non-CAFTA economies.

Guangxi, as the front and window for China-ASEAN cooperation, is working to construct international passages linking China with ASEAN countries, foster new pivot points of strategic importance for opening up and development of China’s southwestern and mid-southern parts and to serve as a crucial gateway that connects the Belt and Road routes. Guangxi stands ready for closer cooperation with the CAEXPO Supporting Chambers of Commerce in the ASEAN countries, thus to share new opportunities and pursue new common development.

With the establishment of the ASEAN Community, ASEAN has turned to be an economy with strong competitiveness. ASEAN shall seize opportunities, advance its integration course, strengthen internal dynamism for development and achieve balanced and sustainable development. Meanwhile, the undergoing RCEP cooperation will unleash more business opportunities for ASEAN countries and their dialogue partners to strengthen trade and investment cooperation within the region and expedite the East Asian Economic Integration.

The CAEXPO Supporting Chambers of Commerce Initiative on Friendly Cooperation was signed by the chambers of commerce at the event. All of them saw eye to eye that to enhance reciprocal cooperation, promote common development and forge the China-ASEAN Community of Common Destiny serves the interest of Chinese and ASEAN business communities.

This conference provided a great opportunity for networking among the business communities. It is the first time for the CAEXPO to organize an event of such alike. It marks a new stage for cooperation among the CAEXPO Supporting Chambers of Commerce oriented for higher level and richer mutual beneficial and win-win outcomes.

This year celebrates the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations, which is important for us to build on the past achievements and usher into a brighter future for implementing the Belt and Road initiative. The 13th CAEXPO that features “jointly building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, forging an even closer China-ASEAN Community of Common Destiny” arranges diversified events in line with of progress of upgrading the China-ASEAN FTA, allows enterprises of all countries concerned to share fruits yielded by trade and investment facilitation of this FTA, gives spotlight on international cooperation in production capacity, facilitates the implementation of the China-ASEAN Information Harbor and other major cooperation projects and deepens multi-fielded cooperation, lending new impetus to realizing common development and prosperity within the region.
