The 13th CAEXPO & CABIS Convened - Zhang Gaoli Present Announcing the Opening

Nanning is September is a place of green vegetation and blossoming flowers. It is also the permanent host city of two grand annual events for China-ASEAN cooperation, namely, the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the China-ASEAN Business & Investment Summit (CABIS). Opening ceremony of the13th CAEXPO and the 13th CABIS was held in Nanning of Guangxi on the morning of September 11, 2016.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations and the first year after the ASEAN Community was built and efforts were launched to upgrade the China-ASEAN FTA, which is also important for implementing the Belt and Road initiative. The 13th CAEXPO, themed on “Jointly building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Forging an Even Closer China-ASEAN Community of Common Destiny”, works to facilitate all parties concerned in concluding new cooperation projects related to international industrial capacity cooperation, connectivity, China-ASEAN Information Harbor and international industrial parks, obtaining keen attention and full support from China, the ASEAN countries and economies beyond the China-ASEAN region.
Presenting the opening ceremony and jointly inaugurating both events are leaders of China and the 10 ASEAN countries, including H.E. Mr. Zhang Gaoli, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council of China, H.E. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of Vietnam, the Country of Honor of the 13th CAEXPO, H.E. Mr. Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, H.E. Mr. U Myint Swe, Vice President of Myanmar, H.E. Mr. Sonexay Siphandone, deputy prime minister of Lao PDR, H.E. Mr. Prajin Juntong, deputy prime minister of Thailand, Honorable Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam, Honorable Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Second Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia, Her Excellency Madame Cynthia Aguilar Villar, Senator of the Philippines, H.E. Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State, Ministry of National Development & Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore, Ir. Arlinda, Director General of National Export Development of Ministry of Trade of Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of the ASEAN, H.E. Mr. Peng Qinghua, Secretary of the CPC Guangxi Committee, H.E. Mr. Zhong Shan, International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce of China and H.E. Mr. Chen Zhou, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
The opening ceremony also attracted H.E. Mr. Abdul Rishad Badiutheen, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Sri Lanka, the Special Guest Country of the 13th CAEXPO, ministers of relevant ministries and commissions of China and ASEAN, representatives of diplomatic corps of China, ASEAN counties and neighboring countries, presidents and chairpersons of chambers of commerce and trade associations, renowned entrepreneurs and eminent figures of different professions.
The opening ceremony was held in a new venue, the Osmanthus Hall of the Nanning International Convention & Exhibition Center. It is the first time that art performance has been arranged for warming-up. Artists of Vietnam (Country of Honor of the 13th CAEXPO) are invited to play the single-string instrument, enchanting audience with the charm unique to folk arts of the country. The VCR on scenic landscape, culture and national flower of Vietnam was played on the huge screen on the stage. The stage, decorated with blue and white colors, demonstrates simplicity and grandeur. Two huge “wings” on both sides enriched splendor of the stage, symbolizing that China and ASEAN will fly high together and excel for richer deliverables side by side.
The opening ceremony began at 09:30 and was moderated by Mr. Chen Wu, Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Mr. Do Thang Hai, Vice Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam as the Country of Honor.
Mr. Peng Qinghua, Mr. Zhong Shan and Mr. Chen Zhou addressed the opening ceremony on behalf of Guangxi, the CAEXPO host province, the Ministry of Commerce of China, one of the CAEXPO co-sponsors and the CABIS.
Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli delivered a keynote speech, and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen, Vice President U Myint Swe , Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Juntong, and Minister Abdul Rishad Badiutheen of Sri Lanka made speeches. Mr. Jack Ma, executive chairman of Alibaba Group, also made remarks.
The device for inauguration reflected creativity. International cooperation in production capacity was highlighted at the inauguration session. “Gears” which represent traditional industry rose, and smart “chips” that stand for modern intelligence and aspirations of people of the 11 countries were inserted by the leaders into the “Gears”, to jointly get start the “Engines of Cooperation”.
Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli declared the 13th CAEXPO and the 13th CABIS open. The 15 leaders then rolled their handles to start the “engines of cooperation”. A pair of huge “wings of cooperation” unfolded. “Chips” were inserted into the “engines of cooperation”, and the light of energy shined immediately. On the main screen and the two side screens, gears used in traditional industry turned into digital ones, which converged energy and drove the Beidou Satellite and the Wings of Cooperation. The theme of the opening ceremony, “Upgrading Jointly, Excelling Cohesively”, was shown on the main screen, embodying that China and ASEAN will forge an interactive synergy to build the China-ASEAN Community of Common Destiny and upgrade the bilateral cooperation in production capacity to an upper end of modern industrial chain by giving full play to information and smart technologies.
The opening ceremony came to the climax at this moment.
A brief VCR was made and played at the opening ceremony to review the development course embarked on by the China-ASEAN dialogue relations over the past 25 years and showcased what has been achieved by the bilateral cooperation and the prospects for further development of the bilateral relations.
Silk Road-linked friendship will be carried forward from generation to generation. As China and ASEAN deepened dialogue over the 25 years, the 13th CAEXPO will bring the bilateral cooperation to another pinnacle. China and ASEAN jointly made 3 historic strides, from establishing dialogue relations to good neighborly partnership of mutual trust oriented towards the 21st Century to strategic partnership for peace and prosperity. Right now, the China-ASEAN Community of Common Destiny is in the making. Proceeding from a new starting point provided by the 25th anniversary of the dialogue relations, China and ASEAN will maximize platforms of the CAEXPO and the CABIS, ride the waves together and forge ahead toward the China-ASEAN Community of Common Destiny.
