Brunei Darussalam will be the Country of Honor for the 14th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) to be held in September 2017, which will be the second time for Brunei to take the honor.
Honorable Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam has recently sent a letter to the CAEXPO Secretariat that Brunei Darussalam will participate in the 14th CAEXPO as the Country of Honor. Mr. Lim said that Brunei would attach great importance to this issue and work closely with the other Co-sponsors of the event to jointly ensure the smooth preparations for the 14th CAEXPO.
When attending the 3rd CAEXPO, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, spoke highly of the event and said that the CAEXPO had been well organized and very successful.
Via the CAEXPO as a platform, Brunei has showcased its distinctive halal food, arts & crafts, ICT products and services, further exploring the Chinese and ASEAN markets. At the 11th CAEXPO held in 2014, Brunei government and Guangxi, China concluded a MOU on Economic and Trade Cooperation along Brunei-Guangxi Economic Corridor, and at the 12th CAEXPO held in 2015, Brunei government and Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group concluded a letter of intent on building Muara port. These projects have set examples for the investment cooperation of the CAEXPO. Bandar Seri Begawan, the City of Charm of Brunei Darussalam for 13 sessions in a row, has been widely known by the participants of the CAEXPO, which helps attract a large number of people to travel Brunei.
The CAEXPO Country of Honor mechanism was launched at the 4th CAEXPO in 2007. Since then each ASEAN country is invited to be the Country of Honor in accordance with the alphabetic order of their country names. Brunei was the first Country of Honor of the CAEXPO, to which His Royal Highness Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince of Brunei Darussalam headed a delegation.
