The 14th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) will kick off in Nanning China on September 12-15. Myanmar's enterprises will embrace exciting opportunities for market expansion.
It is widely believed among Myanmar businessmen that they will harvest five business opportunities here -- increasing exports to China, purchasing cheap and fine Chinese commodities, attracting the investment of Chinese enterprises, introducing China's leading technologies, and pulling more Chinese tourists. The CAEXPO has been a wonderful platform for them to seek partners and expand their footprints in China.
The CAEXPO contributes to increased export of good featured products to China.
Wu Angsuo , Deputy Director of Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization (Myan Trade) under the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), recognized the role of the CAEXPO. "I have participated in the CAEXPO four times. Our entrepreneurs reap enormous benefits here given more opportunities to communicate with traders and customers in China and other ASEAN countries. More benefits are available in particular after the establishment of CHINA-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA)."
Myanmar farm products enjoy widespread popularity among Chinese consumers. Myanmar has been endowed with diverse tropical crops thanks to its superior climate conditions and abundant natural resources. The government of Myanmar has attached considerable importance to its agricultural sector by attracting foreign investment and working out various incentives to increase the export of rubber, beans, rice and farm products. In previous expos, exhibitors from Myanmar have won many plum deals for agricultural products and food like tea, and found access to the Chinese market for their mango and cashew nut.
Myanmar jade and jewellery are well received in China. Myanmar is renowned in the world for its jade and jewellery, in particular jadeite which has great appeal to Chinese consumers for its elegant color and fine texture. The CAEXPO has witnessed jade and jewellery 65% of all Myanmar exhibits every year, which are well-received among Chinese consumers. At the 9th CAEXPO, Myanmar leveraged its first appearance as the Country of Honor and launched a special presentation for jewellery and jade, a highlight of similar activities. Thanks to the CAEXPO, more and more Myanmar gems are known to the Chinese people and become their favourite.
Of particular note, quality goods with distinctive Myanmar elements like handicrafts and wood furniture are also preferred in the Chinese market. As always, these products will dominate the exhibition.
The CAEXPO channels more international capital into Myanmar.
Meetings which provide investment information and facilitate project cooperation are organized at the CAEXPO every year, with many cooperation projects confirmed. With the CAEXPO, Myanmar has fully demonstrated its policies and environment for investment, and attracted more Chinese enterprises and global investors to satisfy its demands for infrastructures, industry, manufacturing (especially apparel industry), energy and telecommunication. Many investment projects are made possible here. At the 9th CAEXPO, Guangxi Non-ferrous Metals Group Co., Ltd. and Myanmar Jiaomai Mineral Prospection and Exploitation Company signed a memorandum of cooperation for the prospection and exploitation of lead and tin.
At the 13th CAEXPO, General Myint Swe, the first vice president of Myanmar said that, "the exposition serves as the best platform for China and ASEAN countries to promote friendly relationship, enhance economic and trade cooperation, and increase personnel exchanges. Myanmar has ushered in a new era of development, and Myanmar leaders have expressed on many occasions their wish for more Chinese enterprises to invest and build plants in Myanmar, and more overseas capital to flow in.
The CAEXPO this year will continue to organize a series of investment promotion activities to help Myanmar attract international capital. These activities include round-table conferences for investment and cooperation, investment promotion meetings for ASEAN industrial parks, meetings for technology transfer and innovative cooperation, Exchange between Trade Counsellor of Chinese Embassies in ASEAN Countries and Entrepreneurs, and Myanmar recommendations. Focusing on high-end cross-border business, these activities will push forward cooperation in industrial parks and technological innovation, and encourage more leading Chinese enterprises to invest in Myanmar.
The "City of Charm" show pushes forward rapid tourism development in Myanmar.
Beautiful melodies, elegant dances by maidens in golden veils and glittering Shwedagon Pagoda... Every year, Myanmar is sure to come under the spotlight with its "City of Charm" show. The show provides not only an intuitive visual presentation of charming Myanmar cities, but also information about their economic and trade development, tourism and investment environment.
The "City of Charm", one of five features at the CAEXPO, marks its innovative spirit. By far, Myanmar has seen ten of its cities in the show, including Mandalay, Bagan, Rangoon, Yatanābon, Muse, Naypyidaw, Yadanarbon, Kyaukpyu, Dawei and Mawlamyine. The mysterious country is unveiling its charm to the world. This year, Taunggyi will come to the CAEXPO as a "City of Charm" for Myanmar so that more opportunities are there for it to engage in exchanges and cooperation with cities in China and other ASEAN countries. In a word, the show is a great platform for both China and ASEAN countries to promote exchanges and cooperation, and to increase their international popularity and competitiveness.
A dazzling array of exhibitions present more business opportunities to Myanmar enterprises.
The past 13 years have witnessed continuous growth and improvement of the CAEXPO from initial "10+1" model, "10+6" model, to its integration into the Belt and Road initiative. The exposition will realize better results in economic and trade cooperation with improved mechanisms, venues and facilities, and services and functions.
The addition of new venues increases exhibition quality. A new hall (E) for the "Belt and Road" exhibition will be launched this year. Commodities which meet the demands of Myanmar will continue to occupy a place, for example, China's engineering machinery, electrical equipment, food packaging machinery, electric products and building materials.
The CAEXPO welcomes more Chinese and global purchasers. The 14th CAEXPO will bring together more strong purchasers from China as well as other countries and regions like ASEAN countries, Europe, America, Latin America, Middle East, Southern Asia and Africa. They will focus on areas including engineering machinery, electric products, building materials, food packaging machinery, and agricultural products and food.
The CAEXPO expands areas of cooperation. Kazakhstan is invited for the exposition as a special partner (formerly known as "Special Guest Country"). The CAEXPO will continue to promote exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries and the rest of the world, and expand areas and scope of cooperation, thus producing substantial results for exhibitors.

The exhibition preparation is now picking up steam. 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, and China-ASEAN Tourism Cooperation Year. Under the theme "Jointly Build the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Promote Regional Economic Integration through Tourism", relevant activities will be launched to promote consensus on maritime cooperation, and regional economic integration through tourism. China and ASEAN countries will work together to advance the "Belt and Road" initiative.
