Silkworm which produces silk thread dedicates itself to spinning, from delicate filaments to incredibly luxury silk fabrics. The silk production technology is a testimony to wisdom over 5000 years. The Silk Road, from its very beginning, embodies a spirit of connectivity, mutual learning and sharing of a brighter future. Over the past 15 years, the CAEXPO and the CABIS, just like silkworms, have dedicated themselves to contributing wisdom and strength to the friendly cooperation between China and ASEAN and to bringing benefits to the peoples of both sides.
“I now declare the 15th China-ASEAN Expo and the 15th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit open”. After the declaring of Vice Premier Han Zheng, 16 VVIPs jointly rolled the reeling machines in front of them. Seedlings were grown from the earth, with cocoons on them. As silkworm cocoons reeling machines slowly opened, 16 beautiful butterflies showed and flapped their wings. In the meantime, colorful laser butterflies were shown on both sides of the stage and the reverse. 60 children with wings as butterfly elves cheerfully ran across the venue, and another 60 children sang a song of blessing walked from the back of the stage. All the participants were immersed in festive mood.
The 15th CAEXPO and the 15th CABIS were unveiled amid deafening applause.
In addition, the ASEAN Young Scientists’ Innovation Tour in China was launched by the ministers of science and technology of China and the ASEAN countries at the ceremony, as a concrete step to get off the ground the Belt and Road Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation Action Plan proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, to bolster up the people-to-people exchanges between the Chinese and ASEAN young scientists.
Over a span of 15 years since the inception of the CAEXPO and the CABIS, China and ASEAN have achieved remarkable outcomes side by side. The CAEXPO and the CABIS have grown into high-end platforms for pooling consensus and synergizing development strategies between China and ASEAN and effective platforms for advancing trade and investment facilitation and creating enormous business opportunities. Standing on a new starting point, the CAEXPO and the CABIS will, all along, contribute to the closer China-ASEAN cooperation on all fronts.
