Sep. 24th,2019(Public Day)
On July 11, the CAEXPO Secretariat and the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia which is the CAEXPO co-sponsor jointly held a press conference for the Country of Honor. Leaders from the Directorate General for National Export Development (DGNED) of the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia and the CAEXPO Secretariat attended the conference. About 35 journalists from 29 Indonesian mainstream media and China’s media based in Indonesia came to report.
China-Indonesia cooperation and exchanges have made significant progress, in which the CAEXPO has played an indispensable role. Madam YANG Yanyan, Vice Secretary General of the CAEXPO Secretariat said that Indonesia is a place where the initiative of “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” was firstly proposed and a major starting point for the Belt and Road cooperation. In recent years, Indonesia-China trade and economic cooperation has developed by leaps and bounds. In 2018, China’s direct investment in Indonesia registered USD2.4 billion, making China the 3rd largest source of FDI for Indonesia. Our bilateral trade volume exceeded USD77.4 billion. China is the largest trading partner and largest export market for Indonesia, while Indonesia is one of the top 10 overseas destinations for China’s project contractors. In 2018, Chinese companies signed new projects with contractual value of USD 11.4 billion, and delivered a turnover of USD6.1 billion in Indonesia. Those projects involve power plants, expressways, bridges and dams.
Indonesia has reaped good trade and economic outcomes at the CAEXPO. Over the past 15 sessions, Indonesia has organized more than 1000 exhibiting enterprises using a total of over 1800 booths. During the 15th CAEXPO, the on-site trade volume at the Indonesia Commodity Hall grew by 3 times than the year before. As for the Chinese side, apart from showcasing products suitable for the ASEAN markets including machinery and equipment, electronics and electrical appliances, building materials and agriculture, new industries in which both China and ASEAN have shown keen interests will be the highlight for exhibition this year, including AI, Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data and e-commerce. In addition, we have doubled our efforts to organize exhibiting enterprises in upstream and downstream of those industries, so as to provide one-stop services for buyers from Indonesia and other ASEAN countries to purchase marketable products. Over 100 investment and trade promotion events will be held on sidelines. Among them, more than 10 sourcing conferences for specific industries will be arranged. More innovative products will be seen at the upcoming 16th CAEXPO, helping Indonesia bring in more high-end technologies and fuel its economic development.
Since put in place in 2017, the Country of Honor mechanism has been highly credited and closely followed by the ASEAN countries, strongly boosting the win-win cooperation between China and ASEAN. Mr. Marolop Nainggolan, Director of the Directorate General of National Export Development (DGNED) under the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia expressed that it is of great significance for Indonesia to act as the CAEXPO Country of Honor for the second time, as Indonesia is the largest economy in the ASEAN and an important member of G20. The state leader of Indonesia will head a delegation to the upcoming 16th CAEXPO and Indonesia will use an independent exhibition hall to showcase its distinctive products such as handicrafts, wood furniture, foodstuffs and textile, and introduce investment and trade information & services in mining and other sectors. Diversified investment and trade promotion programs tailored for Indonesia as the Country of Honor will be hosted, including high-end talks, project/trade-matching meeting, promotion conference on industrial parks, etc. It is estimated that the number of Indonesian exhibitors and trade visitors to the upcoming CAEXPO will reach a thousand.
As 2019 marks the 69th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia, and is the beginning year for the implementation of the China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership Vision 2030, the 16th CAEXPO taking place on such an occasion will contribute more significantly to the China-ASEAN trade and economic cooperation, and create greater business opportunities for building the Belt and Road.
